Earthquake Devastates Haiti
A catastrophic earthquake hit Haiti today, the Western Hemisphere's poorest nation. The most powerful earthquake ever recorded in Haiti comes after the country was devastated by four tropical storms in 2008.
President Bill Clinton -- now the U.N. Special Envoy for Haiti -- said the world body was "committed to do whatever we can to assist the people of Haiti in their relief, rebuilding and recovery efforts."
Wyclef Jean, who has devoted considerable resources to the reconstruction of Haiti, said tonight, "I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now."

Equity International's 15th Anniversary
Equity International, founded on January 5, 1995, is pleased to celebrate its 15th year anniversary. William Loiry founded the firm on his strong belief and conviction that we can – and should – generate revenue and make the world better at the same time.

In 1998, three years before the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Equity International convened the first conference on the threat of Osama bin Laden to Americans overseas. Since then, it has convened countless conferences, roundtables, and trade shows facilitating solutions in aviation security, border security, bioterrorism, emergency communications, and global security.
In 2008, when the U.S. State Department needed help with a major international conference on renewable energy, Equity International used all of its considerable resources to help make the event an historic forum, which featured almost 9,000 delegates from 119 countries.
Extremely important, from 2005 to today, Equity International has been a strong supporter of the Clinton Global Initiative, which has brought together more than 100 current and former heads of state, global CEOs, and major philanthropists to tackle the world’s most urgent problems, including poverty, health, education, economic development, clean energy, and climate change. Clinton Global Initiative members have made nearly 1,700 commitments valued at $57 billion, which have already improved more than 200 million lives.
We have received considerable praise from many leaders, including President Bill Clinton, the first Homeland Security Secretary – Tom Ridge, mayors and governors, CEOs and nonprofit leaders, military leaders and diplomats. Our efforts have received extensive news media coverage, from CNN and Fox to The New York Times and The Los Angeles Times.

Major sponsors included BP, GE, Volvo, Brookfield Power, Good Energies, Renewable Capital, Chevron, GM, UNICA, Covanta Energy, Vestas, and Stoel Rives. President George W. Bush was the Keynote Speaker. Participants confirmed more than 100 pledges of action to advance renewable energy in the U.S. and worldwide. We were also a co-organizer of a major Congressional renewable energy reception on Capitol Hill, attended by more than 400 Congressional and renewable energy leaders.
Foreign Affairs: In 2005, we helped strengthen U.S.-Russian relations by developing the first U.S. Homeland Security Trade Mission to Russia, Congressionally-led and hosted by the Russian Duma. Equity International President William Loiry was an inaugural 2005 member of the Clinton Global Initiative and is a current member of the Clinton Global Initiative with a focus on Energy and Climate Change.
